DESCRIPTION
Pullman was founded as an industrial model town in the 1880’s. The community housed the workers who built Pullman Train Cars, and in addition to conveniences such as indoor plumbing and well lit streets, physical activity was encouraged. The Pullman company provided athletic grounds for teams and individuals to compete, and soccer wa vcs one of the sports that achieved the most success. From 1883, the date of the first documented soccer game in Chicago to the late 1920’s, Pullman fielded soccer teams which won local and national recognition. In addition to men’s and boy’s soccer teams, girls in Pullman, and nearby Palmer Park, were encouraged to play as well.
