Coal Towns and Soccer Towns

Soccer History Lives Here's Chuck Carlson will be at the LaSalle County Historical Society to discuss the long and impressive history of soccer in Illinois coal mining communities from the 1880's to the present.

While soccer was played throughout the coal fields of Illinois, this presentation will focus on the northern and western Illinois coal towns such as Dalzell, Spring Valley, Streator, Mark, Standard, Carbon Hill and Coal City. He'll also be talking about the social climate of these towns and the importance of girls soccer in keeping the game alive in the smaller towns of Illinois.

The presentation is open to the public and starts at 1 PM and the Historical Society is located at 101 East Canal Street, North Utica, IL.
